3 Movie Reviews: Rocky, Devil, Stranger…

Movie reviews for Rocky Balboa, The Devil Wears Prada, and Stranger Than Fiction.

Rocky Balboa, The Devil Wears Prada, Stanger Than Fiction

These threes movies have been recently released on Blu-Ray (or DVD). I watched Rocky Balboa and Stranger Than Fiction today, and I saw The Devil Wears Prada a couple months ago.

Rocky Balboa - 6.5/10

Rocky definitely didn’t have the magic that the first few films had. To be honest, I didn’t really expect it to. There were high points in the movie, but Rocky also shared just as many low points. His relationship with his son was awkward to say the least, and I wish they’d have focused in on it a little more. Also, this Rocky had the worst fight scene of any in the series; even the street brawl against Tommy “Machine Gun” Morrison in Rocky V was better. This sequel almost felt like a “Rocky’s greatest hits,” since much of the movie is spent reflecting back and showing the most meaningful moments of the first 5 Rocky films. All in all, I’d say Rocky Balboa was better than average and I found it somewhat enjoyable. I give it a slightly above average 6.5 out of 10.

The Devil Wears Prada - 9/10

You never know what to expect when a movie is as critically acclaimed as The Devil Wears Prada. You could end up getting the superb Million Dollar Baby, or the abysmal Brokeback Mountain. Fortunately this time around, I agreed with the critics and loved every second of The Devil Wears Prada. Devil was the best movie of 2006 for me (well, there weren’t many good ones out there) and I give it a very solid 9 out of 10.

Stranger Than Fiction - 7/10

The trailer to this movie really caught my attention. It seemed like a great plot, and the perfect role for Will Ferrell. I would say the movie didn’t reach my high expectations. Don’t get me wrong, the movie was good, just not GREAT. This seems like one of those movies that really had an interesting plot line, but it kinda took too long to develop. I wonder if this movie was only 45 minutes long, would I really have missed anything? There are a few funny parts, but they never really seemed to let Will Ferrell really cut loose and go all out. Of course, being a motion graphics artist, I really appreciated the surprisingly good graphics throughout the movie. Stranger Than Fiction isn’t going to change your life, but it is worth the watch. I give it a 7 out 10.
